Meet the Team
Our lab values education, training, and inclusion of all scientists,
allowing them to achieve their career goals and advance their careers.
Research Associate,
Laboratory Manager
Sucai Liu, PhD
Sucai brings ~20 years of immunology research expertise to the lab.
Clinical Research Coordinator
Andrew Stahly, MPH
Andrew manages recruitment of our research participants and assists with all things statistics.
Research Assistant,
Gnotobiotic Facility Manager
Cassandra Levens
Cassandra has directed the gnotobiotic facility for the past 5 years.
Research Assistant
Brendan Allen
Brendan is interested in identifying genes within S. didolesgii that confer its ability to cross the mucosal barrier and trigger arthritis.
PhD Candidate, Immunology
Medical Scientist Training Program
Brenda Seymour
I grew up in Seattle, WA, and graduated from the University of Puget Sound in 2014 with a BS in Molecular Biology, and a second major in Spanish Literature. During my undergraduate summers I worked with Dr. Martin Prlic at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle studying mechanisms of Mucosal Associated Invariant T cell activation. Following completion of my undergraduate degree, I joined the lab of Dr. David Rawlings at Seattle Children’s Research Institute, where I spent four years developing and testing a lentiviral gene therapies for primary immunodeficiency disorders.

In 2018 I joined the University of Colorado MSTP to pursue a career as a physician scientist, and I joined the Kuhn Lab in 2020 for my thesis work in the Immunology Graduate Program. My thesis work is focused on interrogating the mucosal origins of autoimmunity, in particular the mechanisms by which microbial metabolites alter intestinal immune cell function.
PhD Candidate, Immunology
Sarah Danielson
I am a PhD candidate in the Immunology Graduate Program. My research focuses on how interactions between colon epithelial cells and intraepithelial or lamina propria T cells influences immune tolerance and the development of inflammatory disease, specifically colitis and arthritis. After completing my PhD, my goal is to become a PI focused on the immunology of inflammatory bowel disease.
Pediatrics Rheumatology Fellow
Lyndsey Cole, MD
Lyndsey is interested in the intersection between infection and uncontrolled inflammation leading to chronic disease.
PhD Student, Immunology Graduate Program
Courtney Cowan
I am jointly mentored by Dr. Kuhn and Dr. Eric Pietras in the Division of Hematology at CU. My thesis project will combine the Kuhn lab's expertise in axial spondyloarthritis with that of the Pietras' lab in trained immunity. Stay tuned!
Research Assistant
Le Yi Phyo
Le Yi is joining us from Myanmar with >10 years' experience in medical microbiology and microbiome analysis.
